Where school begins as play

About this section

What happenshere

A gentle, joyful environment where our youngest learners meet school for the first time — through movement, story, water, sand and song.

The Playschool and Nursery years are built around play, because that is how children of this age make sense of the world. Days move between structured circle time and free exploration, indoors and out. Children learn to hold a pencil, share a space, follow an instruction and speak up in a group — the foundations everything after this depends on. Class sizes are kept to eighteen with two adults in every room, so no child is ever more than a moment away from an attentive grown-up.

At a glance

  • Eighteen children per class, two adults in every room
  • Daily outdoor learning on the shaded play areas
  • Early literacy and numeracy through story and song
  • Settling-in visits with parents before the first full day

Reading, writing and number take hold here, alongside the quieter lessons: how to listen, how to try again, how to work beside someone else.
